Clearing Agent Docked Over N6.3m Theft

A clearing and forwarding agent, Chijioke Abraham, 50 year old was on Monday September 21, 2015 arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate Court, over alleged theft of N6.3million.

The accused is facing a three-count charge bordering on stealing, obtaining by false pretence preferred against him by the police. 

Inspector Stephen Molo told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offences on January 19, 2010.

Molo said the incident took place at about 11 am, at Festac area of Lagos state. 

Inspector Stephen further claimed that the defendant obtained goods (Motor Spare parts), worth the sum of N6, 350,000, from one Iyke Ojiocha, on pretence of paying him back the money after sales of the goods.

The prosecutor also disclosed that the defendant refused to refund the proceeds after the sales of the goods he got from the complaint but rather converted same to his own use.

According to the prosecutor the offences committed is punishable under sections 285, 312 and 512 of the criminal law of Lagos state of Nigeria 2011.

However the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Magistrate Owumi Martins granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

However the matter was adjourned to October 6, for mention.
