Former Super Eagles coach, Christian Chukwu, has called on the League Management Company (LMC) to be proactive in the management of the elite league to enable the clubs compete favourably at the continental competitions.

Chukwu now Technical Consultant, Enugu Rangers International FC, made the assertion in an interview on Tuesday from Enugu following Warri Wolves’ exit from the CAF Confederation Cup which ended Nigeria participation at the 2015 continental competitions.

According to Chuhkwu, “Nigeria league managers must be proactive and conform to global football standard if our clubs must perform well at the continental level.

“A situation where the league is enmeshed with irregularities, crisis here and there among the organisers, things will definitely not work out fine.”

He also decried the inconsistency of the league calendar as a bane to Nigerian clubs performance at the continental level.

“The league calendar is also a problem, it’s not consistent. When most of the African countries leagues are on, Nigeria’s league is on break even when continental assignments are going on as well.

“In such situation what you witness is disparity in form. Besides, the teams are not even given better treatment by their owners. Players are being owed salaries and other emoluments and so nobody should expect any magic in such situation, Chukwu said.

Kano Pillars FC and Enyimba International FC of Aba were eliminated earlier in the CAF Champions League as Wolves had remained Nigeria’s continental hope which came to an end over the weekend.
