Emmanuel Amunike, Super Eagles Interim Assistant Coach, believes that Super Eagles chances against Egypt in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches are bright. Nigeria will play Egypt twice in the span of five days in just under 10 days. The first is on March 25 in Kaduna while the second encounter holds in Alexandria four days later.

Amunike, who was recently appointed by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) along with Samson Siasia to coach the team, expressed his views regarding the highly anticipated matches in an interview
with KingFut, an online portal.

“I think our chances are bright. Egypt has a good team, good players, we respect them but they should also respect us,” said Amunike, adding “We are not bothered; we also have a very good team and good players.”

Over 40 players were invited for the matches with critics questioning the decision to invite such a high number, with around 20 being foreign based, especially after Egypt manager Hector Cuper invited
just five Egyptians playing in Europe.

“We do what we have to do,” Amunike said.

“You might see it as too much players being invited but we do not. Egypt invited 25 players and it’s up to them to do what they want but we do what we have to do, what we see suitable,” the 45-year-old further said.
