All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has called on Nigerians to summon real strength and celebrate with fortitude the Christmas feast of love and joy.
The party also urged Nigerians to confront with courage a new year that promises challenges amidst the economic downturn that the country faces.
The APC gave this advise? in a goodwill message to Nigerians in general and Osun citizens in particular, which was made available to the media on Tuesday in Osogbo, the state capital.
In the statement signed by the its Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Barr. Kunle Oyatomi, the APC said that, “no amount of adversity should be allowed to dampen the glorious event of the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of mankind, and the gift of grace by God, that we survived into another new year.”
However, the party said that it noted with compassion the avoidable distress that Nigerians are going through as a result of the broken economy that has brought hardship to the country.
According to the party, ‘our economy has all but collapsed; the currency is in tatters; our foreign exchange earnings have dropped by about 70 per cent; while virtually all governments in the country? could not meet their financial obligations.
‘These difficulties have dealt a cruel blow to the welfare and well-being of our citizens, especially in the state of Osun;? the APC lamented.
The party therefore, stated that, ‘painful as this reality is, we cannot but acknowledge the enormous burden of belt-tightening  which the unraveling economy imposes on all Nigerians.
The APC was emphatic that ?’belt-tightening is our  only path to economic recovery. Not a single section of Nigerians will be spared of this austere time.
‘But as the saying goes’, the APC continued, ‘tough times never last, only tough people do.
‘If we must last the hard times ahead and overcome the distress that follows in  it’s wake, then we must not only be tough in enduring adversity, we must also be creative in finding solutions to the economic difficulty,  which 16 years of PDP misrule has foisted on the country.
‘These  coming days and months ahead will no doubt be challenging, but we don’t have to despair. Much will depend on our attitude to this crisis.
‘We need courage and determination with a positive approach to address the challenges and weather the storm’, the party said.
However,  with hindsight? on the situation in Osun, the APC said, ‘we have a lot in the state to be grateful to God for’; and pleading for understanding from the people, the party added that ‘in this stressful period of adversity, we must neither lose hope nor confidence in our ability to triumph, just as Jesus Christ  became triumphant over the forces of darkness that tortured Him to death.
‘It is in this optimistic spirit that the APC wishes all the good people of Nigeria, especially in Osun, Happy Xmas and a prosperous New Year’.
