Sponsor of the Nigeria junior tennis tournament Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has declared that junior tournament was only designed to serve as feeder to the senior open championship, which the apex bank also bankrolls.

The 9th edition of the  junior tennis championship served-off on Monday at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan.

According to the bank’s director corporate communications, Ibrahim Mu’azu, the junior tournament can only serve as a breeding ground to the senior category, which was the reason for the sponsorship.

“You may be aware that the CBN also sponsors the senior open tennis championship. The senior championship is organised by the Nigeria Tennis Federation, so the junior tournament is designed to serve as a feeder to the senior championship.”

The Bank however expressed excitement at the level of progress it has made since it began the sponsorship of junior tournaments in the country nine years ago.

This was contained in a speech by Mu’azu, who was represented by Isaac Okoroafor to officially announce the commencement of this year’s CBN Junior Tennis Circuit at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, (LLTC) Onikan, Lagos on Friday.
