Casillas To Porto Hits Buffers

Iker Casillas’ move to Porto is on the verge of collapsing, because Real Madrid is reluctant to meet the goalkeeper’s terms on a compensation package.

The veteran appeared set to bring the curtains down on his 25-year spell at the Santiago Bernabeu after he agreed to take a €8.5m hit on his €24m earnings over the next two years.

Porto was happy to pay €10m of the €15.5m, leaving Los Blancos to foot the rest of the bill, but Marca claims Casillas’ insistence on being paid the remainder in gross, not net, has left the deal in tatters.

Portugal’s favourable tax rates – 26.5 percent to Spain’s 50% – meant Casillas would receive €7m from Porto over the next two seasons, with €3m being set aside for the country’s treasury.

Negotiations were then initiated with Madrid over the remaining €5.5m, but the 34-year-old is believed to have demanded that figure be paid in gross, amounting to another €4m, while the presence of three agents has also furthered costs in the way of commissions.

Casillas’ farewell was scheduled for Friday, but the impasse in talks has left both parties in a state of limbo, with the Spain international instead attending training, although it remains to be seen whether he will join the squad for its tour of Australia next week.
