Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola has said that the state government is on top of the cashless policy introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) few years ago.

Fashola, while commending the CBN for initiating the cashless policy which started as a pilot scheme in Lagos, noted that the state government is driving the policy with all intents and purposes.

The governor, who spoke at an entrepreneurial forum held in Lagos, said the state has been at the forefront of driving the initiative and that he recently signed an executive order for online payment of all state agencies, adding that the implementation process across the agencies would commence in few days time.

He said: “as at today, 11 ministries are already running a pilot scheme on the portal, while 14 others are in the process of hooking on to the portal.

“The portal would also help to reduce paper work, as people could now upload and download forms online. With the online portal, people will have no business visiting the ministries everyday to obtain one form or the other.”

Apart from the web based portal, Fashola said the state has also created a mobile service that will enable people use their mobile phones to call designated codes such as 767 to make enquiries and get instant responses.
