Some suspected car snatchers on Wednesday evaded the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command after they abandoned a stolen Toyota Hilux pick-up, 2014 model and fled. The RRS operatives however recovered the vehicle.

It was gathered that the Toyota Hilux was stolen from where it was parked at Tiwalade Street, Shogunle, Oshodi area of the state.

The vehicle, belonging to a Lagos based company, served as a security vehicle. According to the driver, one Felix Agunbiade, he had parked the vehicle at his residence in Shogunle on Tuesday night preparatory to use it to pick his company’s CEO, who was visiting from Dubai at the Murtala Mohamed International Airport (MMIA).

He added that when he woke up on Wednesday morning, he discovered that the vehicle was missing.

The RRS operatives were said to have tracked the Toyota Hilux to Ebute area of Ikorodu, where the suspected thieves abandoned the vehicle and fled on sighting the police.

Independent gathered that as at the time of recovering the vehicle, its number plate had already been changed and replaced with LSR 400 CZ.

The vehicle was handed over to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Shogunle Police Division, in the presence of the owner’s representative.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Dolapo Badmos, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Lagos Command confirmed the incident.

She added that investigations were on-going to arrest the fleeing suspects.
