A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress ( APC) in Lagos State, Chief Ayo Akande, has  hailed  President  Muhammadu  Buhari’s performance in office, saying he has succeeded  in giving hope to Nigerians within a short period.

Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent on Thursday, Akande said Buhari’s achievements in his first 100 days in office are unprecedented in the history of the country despite the fact that he is yet to appoint Ministers who will work with him.

Akande, while defending Buhari’s refusal to appoint ministers in his first 100 days, said the President was trying to be careful and strategic in his approach to issues based on the structures that would be put in place.

While urging Nigerians to be patient with the President as he unfolds his development plans, he said that contrary to criticisms over the delay in the appointment of ministers, the President had built a solid foundation for his development plans.

According to him  “President Buhari’s achievements in his three-pronged programme of fighting corruption, tackling insecurity and unemployment are unprecedented in the history of Nigeria. Buhari has really performed credibly. No Nigerian President has ever done what he has done in three months without ministers” .

“ The President is trying to be careful in his choice of Ministers. He is trying to put a structure in place to block all loopholes that can lead to corruption before making his appointments. Also, there is a need to appoint incorruptible people as ministers, who will not jeopardize the President’s anti-corruption fight”.

Akande also noted that the President’s anti-corruption crusade has kept people on their toes and instilled a culture of probity in governance.

“Look at the president’s anti-corruption fight. In just three months, a lot has been achieved. Every corrupt persons in the country are panicking. The EFCC and ICPC are now effective. Even without subsidy removal, fuel scarcity has disappeared in the country and power supply has  tremendously improved across the country. Buhari’s way of fighting corruption in the country has put every Nigerian on their toes.”

On the president’s performance in tackling the  Boko  Haram insurgency, he said, “Buhari has started on a good footing which has been yielding positive results. The singular action of getting the Chief of Army Staff, Maj. Gen. Turkur Buratai, to lead the battle against Boko-Haram insurgency is commendable” he said.
