Senators on Thursday expressed anger as it emerged that the government of President Muhammadu Buhari has not paid his predecessors including President Goodluck Jonathan, Olusegun Obasanjo, General Ibrahim Babangida, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, and others their salaries and allowances since January this year.

Members of the Senate committee of Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs, led by Senator Tijjani Kaura could barely contain their disappointment over the depressing news which came to the fore during their oversight visit to the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

Sources at the office of the SGF told newsmen that the money remained unpaid till now because the president has refused to give his permission to the demand from the SGF for the payment to be effected.

It was learnt from the source that several payment schedule has been forwarded to the President from the office of the SGF seeking permission to access fund for the payment, but none has been approved by President Buhari.

However, the SGF Babachir Lawal, in his official explanations to the committee attributed the situation to the unavailability of funds in the service wide votes for payment of salaries of Ex-presidents.

The paucity of fund, he said was partly due to the challenges of TSA implementation.

The ex-presidents he said, are not the only ones affected.
