Ahead of their inauguration in a forthnight, President-elect, Mu hammadu Buhari, and his deputy, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, have made public their official designations and portraits.

The new designations take effect from May 29, the official handover date.

The President-elect is to be known and addressed as Muhammadu Buhari, President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Similarly, his deputy will be addressed as Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The designations came along with their official portraits, which would adorn government offices from May 29.

Buhari’s media team, led by Shehu Garba, formally unveiled the portraits in Abuja on Sunday.

The rank of General in which Buhari retired in the army in 1985, when he was forced out of government in a palace coup, would no longer preface his name as is customary with retired military officers.

Apparently, this is in line with his born-again profile as democratic leader in contradistinction to the old tag of a military dictator.

During the last presidential campaigns, Buhari’s reputation in the Military Government between 1983 and 1985 constantly played up, with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) making a song of it at every opportunity.
