The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday faulted a claim by a chieftain of Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, that leaders of the party were not comfortable with President Muhammadu Buhari’s dictatorial style.

Its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said there was never a time any leader of the party complained about the president’s alleged high-handedness.

Adebanjo, in an interview with Daily Independent, had said leaders in APC had entered ‘one-chance’ bus with Buhari which they find difficult to alight from.

He said he warned leaders of the party, especially the South-West caucus, about entering into any alliance with Buhari because of his dictatorial nature, but he was rebuffed.

Mohammed, who said the party leadership had great respect for Adebanjo, however, said they did not agree with him on his views about the president.

He said: “We see Chief Adebanjo as our elder statesman, and he is a man we have a lot of tremendous respect for.

“But, unfortunately, in this particular instance we don’t share the same views with him and we believe that we did the right thing in voting for President Muhammadu Buhari and, at the end of the day, all Nigerians will be happy that they did.

“There was never a time any leader of APC complained about the appointments made by the president.

“We are solidly behind him in his quest to give Nigerians the purposeful leadership they crave for.

“We believe the president is not a dictator but a listening leader who holds the views of party leaders and Nigerians in high esteem.”
