Buhari And The Entertainment Sector

The entertainment industry is worried about the ‘body language’ of President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari on the fate of the sector in his administration. It seem as if the general will busy himself with more ‘important’ issues affecting the economy instead of dissipating energy on Nollywood as it were or the music industry as no policy statement has been made to that effect.

Policy statements have already been made by Buhari on insurance, auto, among others but none for the entertainment sector which is recognised internationally and the eye with which the world sees the country. Apoart from his brief promise of making life better for practitioners when the Hausa actors paid him acourtesy call and when he directed Fashola to handle the question concerning the sector during a town hall meeting in Lagos during his campaigns, there is no other concrete statement from Buhari on what his administration would do for the sector.

The general will do well to know that the entertainment industry is the second largest employer of labour in the country which generates billions for the economy.
