Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has announced that President Muhammadu Buhari gave approval for the formation of a Presidential Commission on ease of doing business in the country on Monday.
Laolu Akande, his Senior Special Assistant (Media And Publicity) in a release on Monday said Prof. Osinbajo made the announcement while presiding over the first Quarterly Consultation between the Presidency and the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) on Friday.
“The Vice President said President Buhari has approved a high-powered commission to work on the issues around the ease of doing business in the country,” he stated.
He added that Prof. Osinbajo explained that the presidential commission would have a secretariat to be headed by a private sector professional.
He added that the professional so appointed would lead the secretariat to pay greater attention and focus to the issues of doing business in the country.
MAN had at the consultation raised among many concerns, their worries about cases of multiple taxations.
The Vice President in response promised to follow up on the matter, adding, “one of the key issues the presidential commission which I am heading would be looking at is the case of multiple taxations.”
He added that the Ministry of Trade and Investment would also be actively engaged with the issue.
At the end of the meeting, Dr. Frank Udemba Jacobs, the President of MAN, while speaking with State House Correspondents expressed concern about the acts of vandalism in the nation’s oil and gas installations, describing them as economic sabotage.
