Budget: Tambuwal Proposes To Spend N161bn In 2016

Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has tabled a proposed budget of over N161 billion for the 2016 fiscal year.

This was disclosed by the Sokoto State Commissioner of Information, Abdulkadir Jeli Abubakar III, who stated that the budget to be presented to state’s assembly for consideration, earmarked over N50 billion for recurrent expenditure and over N110 billion for capital expenditure.

The commissioner who briefed the media on the outcome of the state executive council meeting held Wednesday in Sokoto, also said that education was awarded a significant 18 per cent allocation of the total budget, to back the state of emergency the government declared on the state’s education sector.

According to further breakdown of the budget by the state’s Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Bala Kokane, shows Agriculture, Solid Minerals and Health were given priority in the proposed budget.

His Finance counterpart, Saidu Umar, who gave further clarification on the budget, said every aspect captured in the proposal is backed by appropriate revenue and expenditure lines.

He said a committee to revitalise the sector in terms of funding has been set up in addition to other supportive measures to adequately fund the sector.

The commissioner further disclosed that, the state government would soon introduce special deductions and levies to support the course.
