This year’s Marathon Bible Reading organised by the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN), will take place on Monday, September 5 from 9am to 5pm.
BSN deputy manager on media and programmes, Benjamin Mordi, said that the programme would be declared open by BSN’s Executive Secretary, Dare Ajiboye, at the Shepherd’s Flock International Church, Lagos.
Mordi said that the reading, which takes place simultaneously in 50 other locations, would have participants read the Bible in English and indigenous languages such as; Isoko, Igala, Igede, Ebira, Yoruba, Efik, Igbo, Hausa, Nupe, Khana, Urhobo, Fulfude, Jju, Bokyi, Edo, Arabic, Tiv, Itsekiri, Kanuri, among others.
According to him: “Participants irrespective of denomination, age or sex will have a threefold joy by participating; reading the Bible in their languages, helping someone else hear the word of God in a new way and joining others in the continuous reading of the Bible.”
BSN is a non-profit-making interdenominational Christian organisation that is saddled with the responsibility of translating the Bible into different Nigerian languages so as to reach out to people with the gospel in their own tongue.
So far, the organisation has translated the Holy Bible in 24 Nigerian languages and has helped in publishing and distributing same.
It also helps to distribute the Bible free to old people’s homes, orphanages, prisons, the deaf and visually impaired homes among others.
