Boko Haram terrorist, travelling in motorised canoes, have captured an island in Lake Chad, army sources said on Sunday. The Army of Republic of Niger is now battling to recapture the island from the Islamises, who attacked the island of Karamga at dawn on Saturday, their second attempt to capture it since February.

“There were many (Nigerien soldiers) dead on Saturday, considerably more than in the first attack,” said one of the sources, alluding to a gunfight February in which the country lost seven soldiers.

Reports say Boko Haram took over the town of Marte, crossing over from Cameroon and forced Nigerian troops out of the border town of Marte, a Reuters report said. It is believed that the terrorists are regrouping in Sambisa forest, which the Nigerian military has described as their last base, after chasing the terrorists out of large swathes of land since February.
