The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was put on red alert on Wednesday, July 1, 2015, as a boat conveying school children, numbering 14, capsized on its way from Ojo to Irewa, around 8am.

Six children were reportedly drowned in the accident and nine others were rescued.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), through its general manager, Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident.

He said the accident happened after a fibre boat collided with a canoe conveying 14 children.

Oke-Osanyintolu stated that eight children and the driver were rescued; of the survivors, five have been taken to the Igando General Hospital and three discharged to go back home.
