Resident of Umundula Orji Community of Owerri-North Local Government Area, Imo State and its environs are as at the time of filling this report living in darkness in the last one month as a result of alleged faulty transformer which supplies power to the area.

Our correspondent who visited the area recently was informed that the issue has been reported to the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, in the area, but nothing positive has come out of it.

Prince Chukwuemeka Uba, a resident in the area, wondered why the EEDC would feel less concerned over the plight of the people, pointing out that the non supply of power to the area has really affected the socio-economic development of the area and its neighbouring communities.

He called on the Electricity distributors to immediate rectify the alleged fault that caused the blackout in the interest of the people, adding “there is nothing to be compared with power”, and called on residents to always settle their bills with the EEDC office nearest to them.

Another resident Mr. Okechukwu Dimelu, appealed to the power providers to do the needful and bring back electricity power to the area, just as he warned against billing them for power not used. Many who spoke to this medium condemned the continued neglect by the EEDC to give them power, saying that the absence of power in the area has crippled their businesses and social life, which according to them is not good for the state.

When the office of the EEDC in the area along Okigwe road, Orji, an Owerri metropolis town was visited, he was referred to their headquarter by a man who refused to give his name.
