Criminals now exploit the high unemployment rate in the country to ply their trade.

Kidnappers are reported to be on the prow, and that they send out text messages inviting prospects for ‘job interviews’.

However, when the interviewee turns up for the fictitious job prospect, he will be seized and held hostage until his/ her relations pay ransom to have them released.

A civil servant, in Port Harcourt simply identified as Joseph,   disclosed on Monday that a friend’s cousin was kidnapped after honouring one of such invitations to a job interview.

Joseph warned unemployed youths to be wary of the kind of interview invitations they honour, especially when such invitations come via sms and for a job vacancy they did not apply for.

He added that his friends was later contacted and asked to pay N5million if they wanted to see their sibling again.

Nnamdi Omoni, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Rivers State Police Command, said that the command would not spare any effort to combat the new wave of kidnapping.

He said that the Anti-kidnapping Unit of the State Police Command has been briefed on the new development and promised that the command would put measures in place to ensure that those behind the dastardly act are arrested and brought to book.
