Following the dwindling performance of Lobi Stars FC, Makurdi, the state government may have to overhaul the leadership structure of the club to enhance it’s performance.

The Deputy Governors of the state had hitherto been the Chairmen of the club while the technical adviser assumes the position of Vice-chairman; in this case ex-international, Dominic Iorfa.

State Deputy Governor, Benson Abounu disclose that the state government may likely change the leadership of the team should it discover that it was a reason that has led to it’s dismal performance in recent times.

He said, he has already been briefed on the state of affairs in the club by the permanent secretary in the sports ministry but would discuss the issues with state governor, Samuel Ortom before a decision would be taken on the matter.

The Deputy Governor who disclosed this while hosting members of the state chapter of the Correspondents’ chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) paid him a courtesy call noted that government is on the verge of knowing what is on ground before taking a decision on the matter.

He stated that sports development remains a major thrust of the Ortom administration adding that it’s plan was to ensure that Lobi is successful to win laurels, nationally and internationally.

While Abounu observed that government would take proactive steps to ensure sports development in the state, it put in place measures to nip in the bud anything capable derailing the process.

Earlier, Chairman, Correspondents’ Chapel, Aloysius Umalo noted that the Chapel was not comfortable with the dwindling performance of Lobi Stars FC.

He advised that state government to step in and arrest the situation.
