The sitting of the Benue State House of Assembly (BNHA) on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 ended in a rowdy session after the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members engaged in  fisticuffs.

Trouble started when the Speaker, Terkimbi Ikyange, brought up the issue of selection of principal officers for the house.

The PDP maintained that the member representing Obi State Constituency, Nick Eworo, was still a member of the party and as such they were still in the majority with fifteen lawmakers against that of APC with fourteen.

They argued further that Eworo cannot operate in a vacuum because he stands to lose his seat with his intention to defect to the APC last week.

But, the APC members who argued to the contrary insisted that Eworo is a member of the APC.

It was in the course of the argument that there ensued a heated argument between the APC member representing Makurdi South, Benjamin Adanyi and the PDP member representing Makurdi North, Martin Aza that the two engaged in a fisticuff.

It took the intervention of some of their colleagues to restrain the fight from escalating.

Eworo had last week alleged that he was expelled by the PDP and  has therefore defected to APC.

The Speaker, Terkimbi Ikyange, therefore ruled in favour of the APC and went ahead with the selection process.

Benjamin Adanyi was named Majority Leader; Nick Eworo, Deputy Majority Leader, and Titus Uba, Chief Majority Whip.
