The Bayelsa State Police Command has commended residents in the state for co-operating with security agencies to conduct a peaceful and orderly rerun governorship election on Saturday, 9 January 2016.

In a press release personally signed by the Commissioner of Police, Peter Ogunyanwo, and made  available to newsmen at the collation centre at Yenagoa City Council Hall on Sunday, the command expressed the hope that “this trend will be improved upon in subsequent elections”.

Ogunyanwo however appealed for the sustenance of the peace while the results of the rerun from the local government areas were being collated and announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He advised that any governorship candidate that would emerge winner of the poll and his supporters should celebrate victory with decorum and modesty.

Ogunyanwo also called on any  flag bearer that would eventually lose the election to accept defeat in good fate and support the effort for peace and prosperity in Bayelsa.

While enjoining the people of the state to go about their lawful businesses without fear of intimidation, the Commissioner of Police gave the assurance that the command would not relent in guaranteeing the security of life and property of all irrespective of tribe or political affiliation.
