The National Working of the Peoples Democratic Party has formally presented its flag to its candidate and Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson, for next Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

The PDP flag handover ceremony held amid tight security on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa.

Immediate past President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, National Chairman of PDP, Uche Secondus, Publicity Secretary Olisa Metuh and Chairman, PDP Governors Forum and Governor of Ondo  State, Olusegun Mimiko, were among party big wigs that graced the event.

Various PDP women, youth and support  groups mobilised from the eight local government areas of the state brandishing various sizes of banners sang and danced excitedly.

The event took place three weeks after Dickson’s campaign team, tagged “Bayelsa State Restoration Campaign Organisation”, commenced community-to-community campaigns ahead of the election.

The PDP had at its primary election last September in Yenagoa affirmed Dickson as its sole candidate for the election polling 447 votes from 452 accredited delegates.

Dickson, who is seeking re-election, emerged the sole candidate of the PDP after the party disqualified two other aspirants, Senator Emmanuel Paulker and former Chairman of Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, Ebikitin Diongoli during the screening at its zonal office in Port Harcourt.

In his remarks, President Jonathan, said Dickson had performed creditably and that he deserved a second term.

“I’m here today because I need to say one thing clearly. All those who want to be governors are wonderful people.

“But under the circumstance I am looking at all the candidates and my conviction is that Dickson is doing well and Dickson will achieve better in second term”, he said.

In their separate solidarity speeches, Secondus and Mimiko criticized the APC-led Federal Government for leading the country to nowhere.

Both PDP leaders stated that the APC was sleeping and had no economic policy direction for the people six months after inauguration.

They stated that the APC had failed because the economy of the country had collapsed with no hope in sight.

They told the youths to demand payment of the N5,000 monthly stipend promised by the APC during the campaigns for the last general elections.

They urged the people of Bayelsa to “shine your eye” describing the APC as deceptive.

They called on the people to vote for Dickson and the PDP because the governor and the party had kept their electoral promises.

Accepting the PDP’s flag, Dickson warned the people against voting for the APC and its governorship candidate, Timipre Sylva.

Dickson said the APC was planning to rig the election because it was aware that Sylva was not electable as the communities had spoken in one voice and rejected him.

Urging the people to vote for him and the PDP, the governor noted that the only legacies which Sylva  left behind during the five years he ruled Bayelsa were  violence,  criminality and killing through ‘Operation Famou Tamgbe’, a special security squad.

“In a free and fair election, APC cannot win. Their candidate cannot win one ward. Their candidate is not electable.

“He (Sylva) should pray that he wins one ward. He was governor for five years and he didn’t do anything.

“The only thing we remember his government for was killing through Famou Tamgbe and promotion of violence and criminality”, Dickson stated.
