The Bayelsa State Government under Governor Seriake Dickson will benefit N2 billion from the Federal Government’s N713.7 billion bailout package for cash-strapped states in the country.

The state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Esueme Dan-Kikile, disclosed this in his response to inquiries by our correspondent on Monday via the telephone.

“Yes, Bayelsa State will benefit (from the bailout). The state will be receiving about N2bn only,” he said.

Although, the state government claimed it was not owing salaries to civil servants, workers in the eight local government councils in the state had not been paid their salaries for over five months.

Since the first quarter of 2014, Dickson had been lamenting the drop of over N5billion in the revenue allocation accruing to the state from the Federation Account, causing total monthly allocations to plummet precariously from an average of N15billion to N10billion per month.

At the last monthly transparency briefing of the state government in May,2015, the  governor had said the government received “N9.6billion as total gross inflow from the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) for the month of April,2015.”

The  current monthly wage bill of the government for civil servants stands at N4.05 billion while that of the political appointees is N500 million.
The Dickson administration is believed to have received N440billion as revenue allocation from the Federation Account since its inception in February 2012.
