Bayelsa Defections: ‘Dickson’ll Not Leave PDP’

Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson on Thursday refuted allegations that he was set to dump the Peoples Democratic Party and defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor made said he was not leaving the PDP, in reaction to claims by Senator Clever Ikisikpo, who, along with several PDP members in the state, defected to the APC on Wednesday in Abuja.

Ikisikpo, while crossing to the opposition, said that the whole of Bayelsa State was ready to move over to the APC.

However, Dickson through a statement issued in Yenagoa by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, described the claims by the senator, who represents Bayelsa East Senatorial District, as “uncharitable”.

“Ikisikpo wants to dignify his perfidy and rope Governor Dickson into his dubious defection scheme.

“He is a man who rose from relative obscurity (on) the platform of the PDP from 1999 as House of Assembly member and later to the National Assembly.

“He could not even, as a mark of honour and respect, wait for the President, his benefactor, kinsman and leader of a political party that gave him so much, to leave office before defecting to the APC.

“It shows the height of desperation, treachery, mischief and blackmail perpetrated by some of the so-called PDP leaders, who worked to deny the party victory at the polls even against one of their own,” the statement said.
