Yenagoa The Bayelsa State government has commended the Nigerian military for preventing militants from blowing up Agip oil pipeline at Gulobokri and Eweleso in  Brass Local Government Area of the state.

Making the commendation in a statement on Monday in Yenagoa, Jonathan Obuebite?,?  Commissioner for Information and Orientation, , described the feat as most laudable.

The Nigerian Army had announced on Sunday that troops from 343 Artillery Regiment of 2 Brigade, 82 Division, overpowered some armed militants in two speed boats who wanted to vandalise the facility in the early hours of Sunday.

Obuebite  urged the troops to keep up the good work.

He said that the cheering news came about 72 hours  after the government had charged security operatives to be more alert and be alive to their responsibility to prevent hoodlums from carrying out more attacks.

He however sympathised with ? the  Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) whose officer sustained gunshot wound during the confrontation with the economic saboteurs.

Obuebite also praised the gallantry of another military patrol team for stopping similar planned attack on an oil facility at Perigbene House Boat, noting that the damage the perpetrators would have caused could only be imagined.

The commissioner reiterated the commitment of the ?g?overnor Seriake Dickson-led administration to protecting critical national infrastructure in the state.

He called on relevant stakeholders to join hands with the government to ensure that the activities of pipeline vandals were nipped in the bud.
