Yenagoa – The Bayelsa State House of Assembly is yet to pass the state government’s budget proposal of N150.654billion for the 2016 fiscal year more than three months after Governor Seriake Dickson formally presented it for consideration.

Dickson presented the 2016 Appropriation Bill christened ” Budget of Transition” on Friday 15 January 2016.

Konbowei Benson, speaker of the House of Assembly who presided over the proceedings received the budget document from the governor.

It was however gathered on Thursday that deliberations on the budget were delayed for several weeks following the controversy that trailed Dickson’s presentation of the fiscal document to  Benson, who at the time, had been sacked by the Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt.

Benson who represents Southern Ijaw Constituency 4  returned to the Assembly on 15 March and was re-elected speaker following his victory at the rerun election of March 5.

The Assembly despite being in possession of the budget document was shut down while Benson battled to get re-elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

It was learnt that Dickson reportedly ensured that the Assembly did not re-convene until Benson had waded through his political travail occasioned by the nullification of his April 2015 election by the appellate in a suit filed by the candidate of the APC, Ebifeghe Orunimighe.
