The state executive committee of the All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa State, led by Tiwei Orunimighe, has been  dissolved  by aggrieved members of the party under the aegis of Legacy Party.

The members alleged in a statement in Yenagoa on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 that Orunimighe and his officers diverted N248 million presidential campaign funds donated by some APC governors to the state chapter of the party.

The members in the statement signed by Prince Timidi also accused the chairman of anti-party posturing which they said was antithetical to the party’s plan to take over power in the state.

They said the Orunimighe-led state executive committee had never held a meeting since its inauguration, adding that the former officials were always in Abuja and that the state secretariat of the party in Yenagoa had been under lock and key.

The Legacy Party comprises members of the defunct New Peoples Demicratic Party (NPDP), Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP).

They explained that the  action was aimed at rescuing the APC from the clutches of a misguided few led by former Governor Timipre Sylva.

They said their action had become necessary to ensure victory for the party in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

They also announced the setting up of a 9-man state executive committee headed by Perekeme Kpodoh.

“Uptil date, the party  does not have a functional bank account contrary to Article 23 of the party’s  constitution.

“These people (Orunimighe and co)  have been involved in fraudulent diversion of party funds and donations from party leaders and national secretariat.

“The sum of N248 million including N5.8 million released by the national secretariat of the party for delegates from the state, the N130 million given to host the presidential  campaign in Yenagoa, Bayelsa, the N14.6 million given to Bayelsa delegates by former Kano State Governor (Rabiu) Kwankwaso  and N2 million donated by Governor Rochas Okorocha was diverted and shared with the knowledge of the former governor, Chief Timipre Sylva”, they alleged.

Accepting the headship of the nine-member committee,  Perekeme Kpodoh, called on the national executive committee of the APC to investigate the allegations and take necessary action in line with Article 21 (b) of the party’s constitution.
