Students Union Government (SUG) of the Bauchi State run Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic (ATAP) has commended Governor Mohammed Abubakar for appointing Suleiman Muhammad Lame as the Ag Rector of the institution.

President of the union, Commrade Abdul Auwal Mahdi, who gave the commendation in a chat with newsmen in Bauchi, described the Governor as a focused leader who has the interest of the people at heart.

The union regretted the protest embarked by the students while calling for the sack of the former Rector, Dr Bala Adamu.

“We want to humbly reiterate that the students’ demonstration which took place last week was not in any way a sabotage to the new government.

“It was entirely internal reaction to the injustices of the management’s inability to address fundamental needs of the students, particularly the poor sanitary condition of campus, hostel accommodation, water/electricity supply, classrooms and laboratories, sporting activities, release of vehicles for excursion and non-accreditation of courses.

“We are using this medium to apologise on behalf of the entire students of ATAP, Bauchi, for the unfortunate incidence of demonstration; we sincerely regret any in convenience caused to all law abiding citizens affected by our reaction particularly the Governor and his deputy and further appreciate them for complete settling of the hospital bills of the injured students during the demonstration,” the union leader said.

He called on the Governor to prosecute the suspended rector to serve as deterrent to others.

Mahdi urged the acting rector to reverse the trend and style of leadership of the immediate past rector in the polytechnic to ensure peace and harmony in the institution.

It would be recalled that the state government recently suspended the ATAP Rector, Dr Bala Adamu, over allegation of corruption and high handedness.
