Bauchi – The Bauchi State government has distributed food items worth N118 million to physically challenged persons in the state.

Presenting the items to the beneficiaries on Thursday, Alhaji Bashir Uba Mashema, the permanent secretary, Ministry of Social Welfare, explained that the gesture was part of their activities to bring succour to the less privileged especially in the month of Ramadan.

He said that the Ministry of Social Welfare was established to render charity services and provide monetary and other assistance to the less privileged in the state, adding that the food items donated include 313 bags of rice, 210 bags of millet, 210 bags of sugar and 177 cartons of peak milk.

He said the beneficiaries were also given 452 rolls of wrappers, 411 yards of cotton ‘shaddah’ and some token of money even as he noted that the items were distributed through the mosques’ committees and associations of the disabled persons for easy sharing.

The permanent secretary therefore warned the mosques’ committees and officials of the associations against diversion of the food items at the detriment of the beneficiaries.

He warned that government would condone anybody found wanting.
