Banks Lend States N12.9trn In 2015

Nigerian banks lent as much as N12.9 trillion to the 36 state governments and the Federal Capital Territory in 2015, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The bureau in its states’ banks credit and deposit statistics, Wednesday, said that within the period under review, a total sum of N17.1 trillion was deposited in banks by the state governments.

The report, a copy of which was made available to newsmen, stated that Lagos State had the highest credit from banks at N10.1 trillion, followed by Rivers with N658.2 billion, the Federal Capital Territory with N402.1 billion and Kano with N185.05 billion.

Abia accessed N72.3 billion; Adamawa, N45.6 billion; Bauchi, N31.09 billion; Bayelsa, N26.1 billion; Borno, N55.49 billion; Cross River, N121.9 billion; Delta, N159.9 billion; Ebonyi, N44.8 billion; Edo, N70 billion and Ekiti, N31.5 billion.

Enugu collected a loan of N116.65 billion; Gombe, N18.7 billion; Imo, N71 billion; Kaduna, N151.9 billion; Kogi, N13.34 billion; Kwara, N61.6 billion; Ogun, N107.8 billion; Oyo, N172.2 billion and Zamfara, N35.8 billion.

In terms of deposits, the NBS report stated that Lagos State made the highest amount of deposit with N8.7 trillion followed by Rivers with N1 trillion.

The report stated that Imo State recorded a deposit of N221.1 billion; Kaduna, N270.8 billion; Katsina, N105.14 billion; Kogi, N61.34 billion; Kwara, N124.54 billion; Ogun, N279.1 billion and Oyo, N388 billion.
