Bama:  NEMA presents relief supports to rescued residents in Borno

In furtherance of supports to communities that have been liberated from insurgents in Borno State, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has commenced the distribution of relief to the rescued residents of Bama and other towns that are now taking refuge in various camps in Maiduguri.

Several residents of  Bama and other communities were recently rescued after the Nigerian military reclaimed the towns from the insurgents. The North East zonal coordinator,  Mohammad Kanar  at the presentation of the relief supports at the camps in Maiduguri said  that  the Agency’s Director- General  Muhammad Sani Sidi, directed that the items be distributed to the rescued residents to ameliorate their sufferings and provide them with minimal comfort.

He said the items were also delivered for distribution to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) that are in the camps.

Receiving the items, on behalf of the Borno State Government and the beneficiaries, Chairman of the State Emergency Management Agency (BOSEMA) Alhaji Grema Terab, appreciated the Federal Government and NEMA for the gesture. He assured that distribution of the items would be done in conjunction with the all the stakeholders for the beneficiaries.

The relief distributions were carried out in the camps hosting the rescued residents and IDPs that included NYSC, Federal Training Centre, Teachers Village camps among others. The beneficiaries are mostly women, children and the elderly.

The relief delivered were made up of food and non-food items included rice, maize, cartons of noodles, beverages, mosquito nets, mattresses, mats and  plastic containers among others.
