The Super Eagles duo of John Ogu and Leon Balogun has expressed their joy in the re-appointment of Stephen Keshi as the coach of the team.

Keshi was on Tuesday given a fresh two-year contract after several months of speculations and uncertainties.

However, Ogu has hailed the decision of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to reappoint Keshi.

“I think it’s a good thing that NFF has done to reappoint Coach Stephen Keshi as the Eagles head coach,” he said.

The player, who was part of the Super Eagles which was forced to a 1-1 draw by South Africa last month, added:”He is the only coach I have played under in the national team and I can speak a lot about his qualities and person.

“This is a coach who won us the Africa Cup of Nations after 19 years of waiting. I think this is a good thing for our football. I know everyone is sad that we didn’t make the last Africa Cup of Nations, but this is the time to move forward and forget the past.

“The football federation has done well to still trust him and I am very confident that he would deliver.

Also, Balogun has underscored the importance of the decision of the NFF to put to rest the issue of the Super Eagles head coach.

The Germany-based Nigeria defender said: “It was very important that the issue of the trainer has now been sorted out.

“The coach is one of the most important person, he is the one who picks the players, he is the one who sets up the strongest team, he is the one who prepares the road to success starting with the qualifies and hopefully we would be participating in the Africa Cup of Nations 2017.

“It’s very important that there are no more struggles on who is trainer of the national team.”
