Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria, Enugu State chapter has expressed dismay over what they called incidences of Multiple Taxation in the State.

The newly elected Chairman of the Association, Sunday Akam, who made their position known in an interview with journalists in Enugu, said that the incidence of Multiple Taxation had remained a burden to them.

Akam said it was unfortunate that members of the association were taxed on similar items and assured that his administration would do everything within its ability to reverse the trend.

He said his administration would meet with all the agencies involved in the collection of taxes in the state with a view to harmonising the taxes the bakers paid.

He stressed the need for bakers to continue using cassava flour in making bread, saying it would help the economy of the country.

He said that apart from growing the economy, the use of cassava flour in making bread would also encourage local farmers.

Akam who expressed happiness that bakeries in Enugu State have embraced the use of cassava flour in making bread added that most of the bread consumed in Enugu had cassava components.

He expressed happiness that bakers did not use substances banned by National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and assured that the association would continue to partner with the agency to ensure that such banned substances were not used by bakers.
