Lagos – Ayodele Bakare, former D’Tigers coach, has tongue-lashed the Federal Government over what he called “their insincerity and hypocrisy” over the burial of late Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi.
Bakare, while reeling in annoyance over the plan to postpone the burial due to lack of fund, took to his Facebook page to respond to an appeal from a member of the burial committee, who, according to him, was soliciting for assistance from Nigerians for the burial fund of about N30 million.
“No money to bury Keshi? Has it come to that for Stephen Okechukwu Keshi? Has he no family anywhere who can go to the morgue, grab their son, and bury him in whatever small way they can afford so as to save him from further indignity?
“Must we continue to humiliate Keshi even in death?
“You see the insincerity and hypocrisy of a nation, which consistently refused to embrace or appreciate Keshi during his lifetime, but promptly sprang into action to politicise and benefit from his death, seriously turns my stomach,” he said.
Bakare added: “Could the setting up of this burial committee without any funding backing, be described as hasty, politically motivated, unduly sentimental, and even possibly irresponsible?
“I heard the figure of N30m mentioned as immediately required funding. How much of this will go towards running this committee and how much of it will go towards actual funeral expenses such as casket, burial ground expenses, etc?
“Do a few individuals stand to personally benefit from being involved in this committee?
He warned the FG against “committing the sacrilege of postponing the burial due to ‘lack of funds,” saying, “this same ‘lack of funds’ which was used to torture and deny him of his rights during his lifetime; must his dead body again suffer from it?
