Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Bauchi State chapter, wants the state government to pay the backlog of their gratuities amounting to over N15 billion.

The demand was spurred by the recent release of N8b bailout fund received from the Federal Government.

The state Chairman of NUP, Alhaji Abu Gar, in an interview with Newsmen in Bauchi, on Wednesday, said: “With the bailout released to Bauchi State amounting to the tune of N8.6 billion, the government should look into the plight of pensioners and start paying the accumulated N15 billion backlogs of arrears to retirees to alleviate our suffering.”

When contacted, the state Head of Service, Abdon Dalla Gin, said the state government had been trying its possible best to settle monthly pension in the state.

He said: “As I am talking to you now, the state government does not owe any money for pension. In respect of the gratuities, the state government is working towards how to start settling the backlog of the arrears of the gratuities.”
