The traditional ruler of Kweme Kingdom in Badagry, Lagos State, Oba Sejoro Ogungbe-James, has urged the incoming administration to give attention to the development of rural areas.

Ogungbe-James spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Badagry on the sidelines of the celebration of the 8th year anniversary of his coronation.

The monarch said that such development would create jobs for the youth and encourage investors to locate businesses at the grassroots.

“Kweme has three borders around our community in which the government generates revenue but we have not felt the impact of the government in our community.

“We hope that the port which the Federal Government wants to build in Badagry will come to reality.

“Such huge project will open Badagry to the global economy.

“The government               should focus on developing the rural areas, this would not only woo investors, but it would also help in decongesting over-populated cities,” he said. The monarch lamented the lack of basic infrastructure in Kweme community and urged the government to intensify effort to upgrade the rural areas.

“The government should try and focus on education in our community because aside from the Lagos State Model College that we have here, we don’t have any other major school.

“Our roads should be improved too because a lot of commuters go through hardship plying the Badagry-Mile 2 Expressway because of the deplorable state of the road,” he said

The monarch also called on the incoming administration to be resolute in the fight against terrorism and other criminal tendencies.

NAN reports that the coronation was attended by various traditional rulers from Badagry and Lagos State.
