Awoniyi’s brace gifts Nigeria AAG ticket

Under-23 team qualified for the men’s football event of the All-Africa Games billed for Congo in September, following its 2-1 defeat of Zambia at the Heroes National Stadium, Lusaka.

Nigeria does qualified on 2-1 goals aggregate having played goalless with the Zambians in Abuja a fortnight ago.

Flying Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi invited by coach, Samson Siasia, was the hero of the day as he scored a goal in each half to ensure that Nigeria qualified for the AAG.

Awoniyi got his first on 35th minute before getting the second with four minutes left.

Before Awoniyi got his second of the day, Friday Samu had leveled the game with a superb on 56th minute.

Meanwhile, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has congratulated the team for qualifying for the AAG.

Pinnick in a statement on Sunday expressed delight with the qualification of the country’s men and women teams for the football events of this year’s All-Africa Games.

Falcons had qualified on Friday after humiliating Mali 8-0 in Abuja. The first leg had ended 1-1.
