Flying Eagles Coach, Manu Garba, has called on Super Eagles handlers to emulate the confidence U-23 coach, Samson Siasia, reposed in Taiwo Awoniyi by inviting the player to the team.

Garba also recommended other Flying Eagles strikers for the Super Eagles, saying they are the ones the coaches need in order to revamp the fortunes of the team.Commending Siasia for believing in Awoniyi, Garba said that the exploits of some of the boys in the All Africa Games (AAG) final leg qualification match has reinforced his belief in their ability and readiness to take up more challenging roles in the Super Eagles.

A brace by Awoniyi was all that the U-23 needed to break the resistance of the hard fighting Zambian side in Lusaka on Sunday.

Garba was particularly excited that the late inclusion of some Flying Eagles players yielded the desired result.

“I am happy for the coach and the country for qualifying for the AAG. The most important thing is that the coach believed in the boys, and gave them opportunity to prove themselves and they did not disappoint,” said Garba.

He also gave Siasia the nod to use the U-20 boys during the AAG if he wishes.

Meanwhile, Former Golden Eaglets star, Macauley Chrisantus, has warned Awoniyi to be careful in his next career move.

The striker has been linked with several clubs in the last two months.

However, Chrisantus, who is picking up the pieces of his once promising career in the Greece, said that he was in such position in 2007.

“Awoniyi’s case reminds me of mine in 2007, I had so many offers and everybody liked me,” he told

“But I must admit my first move to Hamburg at that time wasn’t the best for a young player and I’m just getting back to my level so his next move might determine his career.”

“He must listen to himself first and be very honest in choosing his next destination, for now he needs top flight games more than money.”
