Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) and the Police in Akwa Ibom State have disagreed on the Sunday attack of oil facilities owned by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) at Insit-Ibom Local Government Area.

Brig.Gen Mudoch Agbinibo, spokesman for NDA  had stated on the website of the militant group, that on “Sunday, July 24, this year at about 11:30pm , the NDA blew-up Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) gas pipeline at Nsit-Ibom.

But, Akwa Ibom Police Command ,which confirmed on Monday the NNPC gas pipeline explosion in Obotim Nsit-Ibom Local Government Area said the militants did not cause it.

Murtala Mani, Akwa Ibom Police commissioner, who confirmed the incident in Uyo  attributed the explosion to a technical fault, denying any militant attack on the gas pipeline.

“This is no militancy attack. Our men are on ground and the fire service had put off the fire.

“It is confirmed that there is an explosion in Obotim Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of the state.

“People from the pipeline confirmed that the pipelines are old and overdue for servicing. There are technical problems in the gas pipeline,” Mani said.

Mani further said  there was no casualty and  that no house was destroyed as a result of the explosion, saying that his officers and men were on ground, while the entire place was well-condoned off.

According to him, “we are waiting for the experts to give us their reports so that we can write our report too on the incident,”
