Auctioneer, Four Others Docked For Cheating

A National Trustee of the Nigerian Association of Auctioneers and four others have arraigned at a Kaduna Chief Magistrate Court over alleged criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The auctioneer, Alhaji Salisu Cheza, and Aminu Abdullahi, second accused person appeared before the Chief Magistrate, Auwal Aliyu.

They were said to have been reported to the police sometime in May by a complainant, one Michael Akanisi, Chairman of Prostrux Nigeria Limited, whoc claimed that the suspects, acting as auctioneers at the Kaduna Textile Limited (KTL), had sold scrap materials to him but was prevented from removing the goods. The complainant alleged that the suspects threatened to deal ruthlessly with him anytime he shows up at the premises.

According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Kantoma, the transaction which is valued at over N43 million took place in August 2014 between the complainant and the accused persons. Cheza, a national trustee of the Nigeria Association of Auctioneers, sold the scraps to the public on behalf of Kaduna Textiles Limited.

Kantoma further informed the court that on many occasions the complainant had been subjected to lots of hardship and embarrassment by the agents of the accused persons whenever he made attempts to collect his goods.

In December 2014, along with some policemen on investigation to the KTL premises, the accused persons especially Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi, allegedly accosted the complainant and threatened to deal with. The third and fourth accused persons, Ibrahim Yahaya Ibrahim and Usman Tahir, are said to be on the run.
