Athletics: Ogunlewe Dethrones Egwero To Emerge National Champion

U.S. Base athlete, Seye Ogunlewe, on Friday in Warri, won the 100m men’s final at the 2015 edition of the All Nigeria Athletics Championship to become the national champions. 

The son of Nigeria’s former minister of works, Seye Ogunlewe, won the race in 10.19secs ahead of Ogho-Oghene Egwero and Jonathan Nmaju, who finished second and third in 10.21secs and 10.33secs respectively.
Speaking after his race, Ogunlewe said he would be working more on his time while declaring that there was more room for improvement.

“Metu and Ogho-Oghene are my role models in 100m and it was a happy moment for me finishing ahead of two of them,” he said.
“There is a lot of room for improvement for me and I am going back to work more on my performance to achieve my goals.”
In some other events decided, Patience Okon George won the women’s 400m in 51.31secs while Chidi Okezie won the men’s 400m in 46.15secs.
Amaka Ogoegbunam became the national champion in women’s 400m hurdles in 55.78secs as Miles Ukaoma won the mens’ event in 48.84secs.

In the women triple event, Blessing Ibukun won with 13.32m while the silver and bronze medals went to Hope Idhe (13. 11m) and Brown Uche (12.42m) respectively.

The women long jump gold was won by Chinazom Amadi with 6.24m while Commonwealth Games gold medalist, Ese Brume, won the silver when she leapt a distance of 6.14m while Usoro Ruth took the bronze with her distance of 6.07m.
