Athletes Throng Delta State For Warri/CAA Relays

Athletes and officials have thronged the Delta State coastal city of Warri for the 5th edition of the Warri Relays Championship. 

This event which has a Golden label from the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) is scheduled to hold in Warri township stadium on Friday 24th of July.

This year’s event promises to showcase an array of top Nigerian and African athletes including Commonwealth gold medalist Tosin Oke, Amaechi Morton, Glory Asumnu and Olivia Ekpeme among others.

According to the AFN President, Chief Solomon Ogba, the meet will surpass all other one-day meets ever organized on the African continent.

“This 2015 Warri Relays will be the biggest of all one-day meets ever organized in Africa, and we are especially proud to be the host”, he said.

“We have one hundred and one athletes coming from all over the world.”

Host Nigeria will also be represented by Dominique Duncan, Nicole Denby, Nwaneka Okwuologu, Endurance Abinuwa, Abiola Onakoya, Tameka Jameson, Ngonna Ndu, Francesca Okwara, Christy Udoh, Tosin Oke, Antwon Hicks, Stephen Mozia, Olu Olamigoke and the nation’s quarter-mile sensation, Regina George completes the list of athletes that will fly Nigeria’s flag at the meet and host sof local athletes.

Apart from the Warri Relay and CAA Super Grand Prix, the finals of the AFN Golden League will also hold in Warri.

The Golden Relay will take place in the morning while the Relays and the Grand Prix will be in the afternoon.  Students from various schools in Delta will also compete at the one-day meet.
