Asagba is a symbol of Anioma nation – Azinge

ASAGBA of Asaba, Obi Prof Chike Edozien has been described as the symbol of Anioma nation owing to his productive ability.

Prof Epiphany Azinge, (SAN) former Director General, Nigeria Institute of Legal Studies, stated this on Wednesday in Asaba while discussing the cultural heritage of Asaba people, maintaining that the role being played by the Asaba Monarch for the past 25 years on the throne has placed Asaba and the entire Anioma Kingdom at a higher pedestal.

He state that Asaba, apart from being the state capital, is adorned with cultural monuments that has made the community a beautiful place for residents and accommodating for visitors, just as he assured that plans are on the way to put them in god stand as a motivation for tourism.

On the 90th birthday of the Asagba, he revealed that the Monarch deserved to be well celebrated and that a committee, made up of seasoned administrators from the entire Anioma has been set up to make it a befitting one coupled with so many activities have been lined up.

According to him, as from July 21 till 28, the birthday date, people would pay homage to the king, carnival entertainment, musical fiesta, essay competition, folklore and moonlight stories, commissioning of projects, public lecture, book presentation, unveiling of statue, sports competition, conferment of chieftaincy titles and to be rounded up with interdenominational service.

Azinge, also the Chairman of the birthday anniversary, assured that security arrangements have been perfected to make sure the birthday celebration is devoid of unforeseen occurrences as it is meant to encourage the Asagba to continue to promote the rich culture and prestige of Asaba people in particular, Anioma at large at home and the world all over.
