Isife, Aminu, Others Set For Amateur Battle At Ojerinde

Lagos – Godsmark Chiemere Isife and Aminu Muhammed topped the list of amateurs who will commence swinging on Saturday in the on-going 2016 edition of the Ojerinde Memorial Golf Tournament holding at the St. David Mark Golf Club, Otukpo, Benue State.

The tournament featuring about 220 golfers teed off on Thursday with Nigerian professional and others from West and central African sub-regions.

However, the aforementioned players will no doubt be the cynosure of all eyes in the amateur giving their present form as they have also been ruling the Nigerian youth scene in recent times.

Isife, a playing off handicap 5 from Enugu Club came second in the 2015 edition of the tournament; recently he has been in top form and has also performed creditably in one of Nigeria’s major tournaments – CMCL – where he also placed second in the amateur category; he also won Okpata Memorial in Aba and was second in David Mark Jr. Birthday tourney.

Aminu Mohammed, handicap 5 from Bauchi State was the captain of team Nigeria to the 2016 All African Golf Challenge in Tunisia recently; he won the 2015 NGF Awa Ibraheem Junior National Open at Ikeja Golf Club last October; he was ranked number one in his category at the last Junior Masters held at Smoking Hills, Ilara Mokin, December 2015 and was also part of the six-boy team to Kenya also in 2015.

Samuel Ochigbo, handicap 9 from Benue State, has been improving in his game in recent time also as he dropped from handicap 12 to his present handicap.

Ochigbo was second in the last Junior Open tournaments in Abuja returning a gross score of 82, 75; at Otukpo, it was 86, 74, 77 a performance he said he would improve on.
