Twenty-six Boko Haram fighters have been killed in a terror attack foiled by government troops in Borno State, authorities said on Thursday.
Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman, army spokesman, said the attack on a camp hosting internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Dikwa on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, was thwarted by troops guarding the camp.
Usman added that three female suicide bombers detonated explosives after running into a crowd of people in the settlement, adding the insurgents also attempted to penetrate the camp but they were “resisted by troops, which resulted in detonation of improvised explosive devices by the attackers”.
The statement said a soldier was killed during the exchange of gunfire while many Boko Haram members escaped with gunshot wounds.
