?The crisis that greeted the emergence of former Governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is far from over, even as top leaders of the party appears to have reached a compromise.
An interest group, Arewa PDP Awake, has rejected Sheriff being chairman the party, describing his emergence as irrational.
This was contained in a statement issued on Friday in Bauchi by the trio of Hon, Danlami Kawule,? Dr Chindo Mohammed, and Mohammed Yusuf who are National Coordinator, National Secretary and National Publicity Secretary of the group respectively.
According to the group, rejection of Senator Ali Modu as PDP chairman became necessary because the party was yet to recover from its disastrous showing of the last general Election.
?It said, “we at Arewa PDP Awake totally reject Senator Modu Sheriff as PDP National Chairman and we urge all stakeholders in the party to urgently take action in order to save the party from disintegration.
“We wish to use this medium to make our position clear that in the event Senator Sheriff remains the PDP National Chairman, we have no other option than to go back to our supporters to chart a new course for our political future in the interest of unity, stability and progress of our country.
?The group urged Ali Modu Sherif to quit the office in order not to cause more harm to the party.
“It is our believe that at this trying moment of PDP the party does not need people like Senator Sheriff to lead the party because of his  past records which speaks volumes of allegations of complicity of all kinds.  At the moment PDP needs a person with integrity who is focused ?and result-oriented,” it said.
