Members of Arewa community in Lagos have disagreed with Senator Musa Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano State, over his recent comment on the relocation of Mile 12 market in Lagos.

Kwankwaso, a serving senator, had urged Akinwunmi Ambode, Lagos State governor, to rescind action on the planned relocation of the market as doing so would result into a lot of inconveniences for traders especially those from the North.

However, Alhaji Musa Saleh, Secretary, Arewa Community in Lagos, at a news conference in Lagos on Wednesday, described the comment of Kwankwaso as not in the best interest of the traders.

Saleh said, “The development of the new ultra-modern market at Imota, followed our request to the Lagos State government to develop a befitting ultra-modern market of international standard for agricultural products.

“We face a lot of hardship in the present location of the market caused by space constraint which informed our request to move the market to a more convenient place.

Saleh who reiterated the support of Arewa community in the relocation, further stated that Kwankwaso was not properly informed on the true position of things in the market by Alhaji Haruna Mohammed-led group who are enmeshed by leadership crisis in the market.

“We wish to state categorically without any fear of equivocation that we are 100 per cent in support of the relocation of Mile 12 market to the new ultra-modern agricultural market at Imota currently being developed by the Lagos State Government and we are ready to move to the new market as soon as possible,” he stated.

The group appealed to Senator Kwankwaso to liase with Arewa community in Lagos to get proper briefing of the true position of things about the market.

They commended Governor Ambode for his effort in building a befitting ultra-modern market in Imota and promised the support of Arewa community in ensuring the completion of the project.

“We thank the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, for his giant stride in the development of Lagos State and for his positive response to all our requests,” Saleh stated.
