THERE are strong indications that no fewer than 56 serving Police Squadron Commanders have been de-mobbed on the order of Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase across the 12 zonal police commands nationwide.

Sources at Police Headquarters in Abuja said on Tuesday June 23, 2015 that the affected officers were being fingered in corruption deals, incompetence and unprofessional conducts.

Some of the police formations worst hit by the move of the IGP, Daily Independent gathered, are the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and the Police Mobile Force.

A top police officer, attached to the Force Headquarters, who pleaded anonymity, described the removal of the 56 Squadron Commanders as a right move.

Daily Independent gathered that in the past some corrupt senior and junior police officers, determined to be deployed to lucrative beat in SARS and PMF, had to bribe their ways with huge amounts of money to secure such postings.

But, an insider hinted that with the de-mobbing, the 56 police officers serving in these lucrative beats could be deployed as ordinary police officers.

Emmanuel Ojukwu, Force Public Relations Officer, did not pick his phone when contacted on Tuesday for comments on the issue.
